Ahoy!
We Are So Glad
You Are Here!
🛟 You have just docked at a site that is all about creating safe and fun boating experiences for kids. 🛟
Are you a parent, grandparent, or caregiver who wants an alternative to boating safety education for kids? Tule Tug (pronounced TOO-lee) believes the key to keeping kids safe while boating is to give them a voice. By using four respectful concepts – Listen, Validate, Educate, and Offer Choice – Tule Tug has discovered a more effective way to communicate with kids about boating safety rules. Kids feel valued as crew members, and with a voice, they are empowered to make safe boating their choice!

Tule Tug uses these four respectful concepts to create a safe space for communication and learning:
Listen: To mirror emotions and repeat back what a child has said builds connection and trust.
Validate: With kids, all behavior is communication. Normalizing big emotions calms the mind so learning can take place.
Educate: Knowing the WHY behind “the rule” lessens resistance and invites acceptance.
Offer Choice: Choice is control and survival (to our primitive brain). We are all hardwired to want choice, including kids!
Explore our resources, cast off your lines, and get underway to inspire and satisfy that unique sense of adventure when your feet are no longer on solid ground.
While underway, keep these three tips in mind:
- Tule Tip #1: Wear a life vest!
- Tule Tip #2: Make sure it fits right!
- Tule Tip #3: Keep kids off the bow while underway!
Tule Tug knows there are many more safety regulations to consider
while boating, but when kids follow her Three Tule Tips, lives can be saved!
TESTIMONIAL
"In our careers as Deputy Sheriffs, we have provided 18 years of combined service to our Boating Safety Unit patrolling the San Joaquin Delta waterways. We have seen too many lives changed forever by tragedies that could have been prevented by doing one simple thing: wearing a life vest. Bella’s Choice can help children understand the importance of wearing a life vest so everyone can enjoy their day on the water and get home safely. We are honored to be a part of the important safety lesson this book focuses on. Just like a life, the message of Bella’s Choice is priceless."
